I sit in silence,
staring out at the lake and letting my mind travel across the dark waves, not
really paying attention to anything except the constantly changing horizon. Paul
curls against the opposite side of the bench, dozing off well before the first
bright oranges and reds first touch the water, igniting the atmosphere. I draw
the sun’s ascent with my focused eyes, sharp as a pencil, sketching its gradual
emergence from the wet horizon, exploding in a fury of warm colors that bounce
across the light blue sky, tearing away the darkness and casting it back into
the shadows under the bare trees ...
Ken Brosky's first collection of short stories contains 10 published stories and 1 previously unpublished story. The stories collected within found an audience in Cream City Review,
Gargoyle, Pif, Predicate Literary Journal, Barcelona Review and more. Two of the stories have been reviewed in Newpages. Both times, the stories were singled out for their exceptional quality. Of "I Can't Just Turn It Off," which was published in Gargoyle Magazine, Newpages summed it up with one word: "Amazing."
About the author: Ken
Brosky once had a book contract with Harbor House Books. But then they
dumped him. Years later, he had a publisher interested in a short story
collection, but that publisher sadly went belly-up. Ken Brosky, clearly,
does not have much luck when it comes to publishers. But Ken
Brosky does have luck when it comes to short stories. Every year, he
adds two or three short story publications to his list. This is his
first collection of published stories and certainly won't be his last.
